We visited the exhibition Planet Explorers where every child embarked on an awe-inspiring journey through the Universe to the mysterious Planet X.

We were in awe as we gazed up at Chicago's night skies during a sky show. We explored the night sky by moving the constellations around, discussed new discoveries with an Adler Astronomer, and solved Solar System challenges.

We recently visited the Museum of Science and Industry where everyone had a great time. We had fun at the Center of Gravity. At the WWI exhibit we learned a little about the history of the war and the U-505 Submarine. The train continues to be our favorite way of traveling to Chicago.

Oak Ridge Prairie

Today we finally had some nice weather and took the children to the park. The weather has been so unpredictable and cool that we really have not had the opportunity to get the children out to the park. Well... today was that day! With clouds looming, we loaded up the vans and started out while praying against the rain.

We went to Oak Ridge Prairie, a nature reserve that is about 30 minutes from the home. There is a nice playground, many nature-walking paths, and a fishing pond. The children walked and ran down the first path enjoying the freedom and fresh air. Even though this park is in the middle of a town, when you are inside it feels like you are out in the country. We started on a second path when the park attendant said that the ticks were out, and we shouldn't be on that path. It was funny that at the mention of ticks, the children and staff stopped dead in their tracks and ran back to the first path. It was too funny seeing them shake out their clothes and look for the little bugs.

We walked back to the playground and then went around to the pond to see what was out. There were a few people fishing, and they all said the fishing was poor because it was cool and cloudy. The children found a big ol' toad under the ramp to the dock. They were just amazed at the toad and kept looking at him until he jumped away. I love to see the wonder in children's eyes over the smallest of thing, like this toad. They are so adventurous and willing to learn so much. They are truly God's children.

Shine with the Light of Jesus Fall Festival

Fall Festival

This year instead of a Halloween party, we decided to do a Fall Festival. After a month and a half and many phone calls for donations, we made a beautiful day for the kids. We were able to get an inflatable bouncer and a hayride donated. All the games were set up throughout the yard so the children could go around and enjoy them.

Later we all went up to the garage to have supper, and to the children's surprise, a DJ came out for two hours so they could enjoy a dance party. All the children had glow necklaces and bracelets and were dancing up a storm.

We had such a great time. The weather was cool in the morning, but by the time the kids arrived we had just the right temperature and clear skies. We all were praying for good weather, and we were truly blessed with a beautiful day. The children had such a good time they were all still tired on Sunday. A big thank you to all of supporters who made this day happen so beautifully.

Ice Skating at Deep River Water Park

Ice Skating at Deep River Waterpark

What better to do when it is cold outside than to go ice skating? I took the children to Deep River Water Park for some outdoor fun and fresh air. Most of the kids had never been ice skating before, so they jumped on the idea of going. So we bundled up and went.

We all put on our skates and headed for the rink. Most of the children could walk well in the sidewalks so I was praying that they would do just as well on the ice. I talked to the referee about some of the walkers to help the kids (that is the red things you see the kids holding on to), but after about an hour most all the kids only needed a hand to hold or just having someone next to them to keep them confident. All of the children really took to the ice well, even the 4 year old little girls and boys. The older boys were doing so well that they were watching the other skaters to pick up some tricks. I was even showing them a few things. But after another 30 minutes, they were all going around independently. What smiles came with shouts of, "Look at me Sister!"

Like all fun things, they most come to an end. About 4 o'clock I started to hear, "I'm cold." We started to head off the ice and back into the warn room to change from ice skates to sneakers. All were asking when we could come back as we got climbed into our vans. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day.

Fair Oaks Farms

The children were able to go to Fair Oaks Farm and see a working dairy farm. They had a great time seeing how cows are born, milked and how the milk turns into many different products for the community. We had such a great time, and they enjoyed all the baby cows being born most of all.

Before we left the children went to the ice cream parlor to have a fresh scoop of ice cream made from the milk of the cows that live there. Then, it was on the bus. We had such a good time, and the children were all asleep by the time we got home. I must say it was a beautiful day!
